The History Of Lilleshall Pantomine

Aladdin - 1998

Aladdin performed by the group this year was scripted by Les Brown again who always brought new and fun ideas to the traditional pantomime stories. A different innovation was in the stage set which had always used static backdrops, but this year, under the design guidance of Les, moving flats were created to give a more 3D look to the set. It was a worry to the Producer, as there was the constant risk of these free-standing flats actually ending up 'flat' on the floor, as a rather enthusiastic cast leapt around the stage! Luck was on everyone's side as the scenery, once again designed and painted by Celia Fox with her willing helpers from cast and crew, stayed beautifully upright and barely wobbled.....OH YES IT DID! The Show was directed by Graham Gibson and this year Cath Pocock joined the Group to play the piano for rehearsals and performances. As with all Pantomimes, the children of the local primary school were invited to take part and a lively and keen set of children attended regular children's rehearsals and took their first steps in becoming 'hooked' on being on stage. A young teenage Roy Fox, who himself had been in many children's scenes in his primary school years, (his sister playing the Genie of the Ring, this year) used his developing computer skills to create Posters, Programmes and Flyers to advertise the Show. What no-one realised was how much this development of computer skills, and particularly Roy with his interest in computers and music, would have such an effect on much later Shows.
